A carpentry training began in Bukuya Village in the highlands of Ba for rural carpenters from Ba, Nadroga/Navosa and Ra.
This initiative is to help meet a demand for carpenters in rural areas and the training program will also strengthen build back better techniques to aid construction of homes more resistant to adverse weather events.
Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management Joeli Cawaki told the participants that upon returning home, their communities will expect them to contribute significantly to the construction of homes.
Cawaki told the participants that there will be a positive change in their skill and they will be able to build homes that their communities will enjoy.
A series of Rural Carpenters Training is being conducted within Government's current financial year across all four divisions at a cost of $231,000 which is funded by the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management.
