The Fiji Airways Men's National 7s team is aiming to improve their performance during this week's HSBC Cape Town 7s tournament, as they have not claimed victory in this competition since the 2018/2019 World 7s Series.
Fiji last secured a title at the Cape Town 7s in 2018, where they defeated the USA with a score of 29-15.
In 2019, they lost the title but managed to win the bowl competition.
In 2022, their performance declined further as they competed for the shield category, and last year, they won the plate competition.
In a remarkable turnaround at the Dubai 7s last week, Fiji showcased a different level of play, winning all their matches from the pool games to the final.
In the final, Spain put up a strong challenge, putting pressure on the Fijians and forcing them into mistakes during the first half.
However, thanks to the excellent leadership of captain Jerry Matana, the team managed to score three tries, breaking a 22-tournament losing streak.
The Fiji Men's 7s team will face Uruguay at 12.38am on Sunday and will meet Great Britain at 4.38am on Sunday for their second pool match.
The Men’s Cup semi-finals are set to start at 11.56pm on Sunday, with the cup final taking place at 5.11am on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Fijiana 7s team will play both of their games on Saturday night, facing the USA at 7pm and Great Britain at 10.16pm.
