With the threat of a shock relegation, Canterbury has put their best performance of the year in the demolition of the defending Mitre 10 champion Tasman 29-0.

Canterbury's defence was the anchor for the victory, setting an aggressive tone early that they maintained throughout the contest to completely shut out Tasman.

Canterbury will return to Christchurch to take on Auckland next Sunday, while Tasman travels to Dunedin to face Otago next Saturday.

In other results, North Harbour thrashed Counties Manukau 32-5 and Auckland edged Northland 24-20.

Meanwhile, Waikato will face Bay of Plenty at 1.05pm today, Hawke's Bay will meet Wellington at 1.05pm today and Manawatu will play Taranaki at 3.35pm today.
