In second, just a point behind on 36 points are the Blues with the Brumbies third with 31 points.
The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua are still in seventh place with 17 points while defending champions the Crusaders have climbed their way into tenth with 12 points after their bonus point win against the Rebels on Friday.
The Waratahs also with 12 points are in eleventh due to points differential with the Crusaders while the Force are last with 10 points from two wins this season.
In upcoming games, the Hurricanes host the Waratahs at 7.05pm Friday, the Rebels meet the Blues at 9.35pm Friday, on Saturday Moana Pasifika play the Highlanders at 2.05pm at Teufaiva Sport Stadium in Tonga, the Crusaders meet the Reds at 4.35pm Saturday, the Chiefs take on the Force at 7.05pm Saturday and the Brumbies play the Drua at 9.35pm Saturday.
