Fiji Sugar Corporation says they have crushed 30 percent more sugarcane this year compared to last year while the efficiency of the three mills in terms of operating time has increased by 28 percent with mill stoppages being 36 percent lower.
FSC says they have produced 20,481 tonnes of sugar till last Monday which is 14 percent higher compared to the same period last year however this has been impacted by cane purity and recoverable sugar rates that remain lower than last year and below expectation.
FSC adds as at the 20th of this month, a total of 266,194 tonnes of cane has been crushed by the three sugar mills which are in full operation.
The Lautoka Mill has been crushing for two weeks and a total of 20,711 tonnes of cane has been crushed.
The Rarawai Mill has been crushing for four weeks and has processed 97,294 tonnes of cane.
The Labasa Mill has crushed 148,189 tonnes of cane in six weeks of operation.
