Justin Trudeau resigns as Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Party, concluding a decade of service to Canada.
This follows growing pressure from within his party and elsewhere for him to step down.
Trudeau says he would remain the Prime Minister until a new party leader is chosen.
He says Canada deserves a real choice at the next election and announces that parliament will be prorogued until the 24th of March.
Ex-Deputy PM Chrystia Freeland and former central banker Mark Carney are among the potential successors.
