Funding for baiting of homes from the infestation of termites will be made available to families with income less than $30,000 after Cabinet endorsed the expansion of the termite baiting programme.
They say this funding will be made in the Western and Northern Divisions, including those living in squatter settlements in the red zones.
Cabinet says the Asian Subterranean Termites spread is largest between Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, Labasa and the surrounding areas.
The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji will oversee and monitor the baiting programme.
They also highlighted that the expansion of the termite baiting programme is part of a whole Government approach to eradicating the infestation and addressing its associated problems, with other comprehensive strategies to be developed for further consideration.
They adds the Office of the Prime Minister would continue to drive the termite baiting programme in close collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji.
The Cabinet says that termites have been in Fiji for more than 15 years and have caused massive damage to homes in red zones like Lautoka, Nadi and Labasa.
