The Colonial War Memorial Hospital will soon commence with a project that will vastly expand its capacity to provide maternity services.

The Ministry in a statement says the undertaking involves the full refurbishment of the hospital's current maternity unit at the corner of Waimanu Road and Extension Street, along with the construction of a brand‑new, five‑level hospital next door.

It adds that the public should be aware that construction will generate an increase in traffic due to the heavy construction vehicles accessing the work site from Waimanu Road, Extension Street and Brown Street, and plan their journey on these roads accordingly.

The Health Ministry says that as there will be significant movement by construction workers within the hospital premises, hospital visitation by members of the public will also be limited.

Parking will also be affected during the construction and members of the public are advised to seek parking outside the hospital premises if they are intending to get their own vehicles when visiting the hospital.
