There is confirmation today that while the CT scanner at the CWM Hospital has been fixed and is operational from last month, it is quite old and needs to be replaced.
Permanent Secretary for Health, Dr. James Fong says they are finalizing the tender process for two new CT scanner machines and one of the development partners is working with them to get a third CT scanner.
He revealed this following concerns raised by a stroke patient of Kasavu, Nausori that health staff at the hospital told him in December last year and January this year that his CT scan cannot be done as the machine was not working.
The man who is a carpenter has told Legend FM News he cannot get this scan done at a private hospital as it will cost him $1,000.
When contacted, Dr. Fong says patients can access CT scans now and has also made arrangements for this stroke patient.
Meanwhile, no time-frame has been given as to when new machines will be in place at the CWM Hospital.
A CT scan is a useful diagnostic tool for detecting diseases and injuries.
