Communications Fiji Limited, the South Pacific’s largest commercial radio broadcaster and parent company of Legend FM, FM96, Viti FM, Navtarang and Radio Sargam has significantly boosted its radio signal coverage in many parts of the country after a significant investment this year.
The total investment in transmission upgrade work in 2015 is just over $500,000.
CFL’s General Manager, Ian Jackson says this has been achieved after the completion of upgrade work on CFL’s core transmission site at Nakobalevu, just outside of Suva.
Nakobalevu is CFL’s most important site as it covers much of the Central and Eastern divisions.
Jackson says the upgrade work comprised the doubling of transmission power from the site, significantly boosting radio signal coverage of the key Suva to Nausori corridor and also improving coverage into Naitasiri, Rewa, Namosi, central Viti Levu, plus along the Queens Highway towards Sigatoka and Kings Highway through Korovou towards Rakiraki.
The upgrade of the Nakobalevu site further improves coverage of CFL’s radio stations in Kadavu and the Lau Group with listeners calling in regularly from these areas.
Jackson says earlier in the year, CFL announced the establishment of its Urata site near Savusavu which increased coverage of Vanua Levu, Taveuni and Lomaiviti, plus, the upgrade of the Tabia site near Labasa which significantly boosted signal from Lekutu in Bua through to Udu Point and providing travellers on the Hibiscus Highway between Labasa and Savusavu uninterrupted coverage.
CFL’s Managing Director, William Parkinson says it is important to note that this has been entirely financed out of company funds.
Parkinson says he is very proud of the work done by CFL’s local engineering team.
He says once again they have shown what can be achieved with hard work and good planning.
