The Director of Ariana Used Cars, Abdul Shekeb and former Acting National Manager of Customs at the Fiji Revenue Customs Authority, Josefa Marawa appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today.

Shekeb is charged with two counts of bribery of public servant by person having dealings with public bodies while Marawa is charged with two counts of bribery.

It is alleged that between the 1st and 30th of April last year, Abdul Shekeb allegedly offered a gift for a favour in the form of a Toyota Harrier to Josefa Marawa.

It is alleged that Josefa Marawa accepted the Toyota Harrier vehicle from Abdul Shekeb.

It is also alleged that on the 19th of July, 2015 Shekeb allegedly offered a loan of $4,000 to Josefa Marawa.

Marawa allegedly accepted the loan of $4,000 from Abdul Shekeb on the same day.

The FICAC lawyer today informed the court of their intention to make an application to have the mater transferred to the High Court, in the event the accused persons elected to have their matter heard in the Magistrates Court.

FICAC lawyers said that they are not objecting to the release of the vehicle but a cash bond has to be deposited of the amount of the vehicle which is $25,000.

Shekeb’s lawyer, Ravi Singh said they will await further instructions if they want the vehicle to be released.

The matter has been adjourned to the 26th of this month for plea and election.
