Business is slowly picking up for 54-year-old Siteri Toni who was one of the market vendors removed from Super Fresh in Tamavua and relocated to Flagstaff market.
Toni who lives in Tamavua says she was heartbroken when she saw the Suva City Council take down their stalls before TC Yasa for safety reasons as they invested a lot in selling there for years.
Toni says she was earning around $300 a day when she was selling outside Super Fresh and they have not reached that amount in Flagstaff but they believe that one day they will be earning the same amount.
She says she was first relocated at Bailey Bridge where she hardly made any sales, but then she requested another place and then she was given the space in Flagstaff.
Toni says she is thankful for the space they have been given rather than waiting for a miracle to happen.
Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar says most of the municipal council markets are empty and they still have people selling on the roadside.
Kumar is urging roadside vendors to register for a stall with the municipal council as spaces are available for them.
