Buses will continue to use the existing set up at Kasavu, on Kings Road, disembarking passengers who will need to board a second bus on the other side.
Fiji Roads Authority’s Chief Executive Officer John Hutchinson says that keeping this set up means that buses do not have to travel the longer detour route.
He says to some extent this also decreases the number of vehicles through the Bautikina passage.
The FRA says the Bautikina access road is an emergency by‑pass route that was opened up to provide alternative access on the network as a result of the slip at Kasavu.
Hutchinson says they are empathising with passengers who are inconvenienced as a result of embarking and disembarking buses and the only relief they can offer is to get the Kasavu slip reinstated as soon as possible.
Hutchinson also acknowledged that the fix will take a while given the now known history of slips in the area.
The Bautikina access road remains open to vehicles up to a maximum weight restriction of 18 tonnes.
