Minister for Health Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete says they have identified the whole of Bua Province and southern parts of Macuata and Cakaudrove as highly likely to have diseases like leptospirosis, typhoid and dengue fever after Tropical Cyclone Yasa.
These areas have been marked as red zones.
He says the Fiji Emergency Medical Assessment Team is in the Northern Division to carefully monitor the health situation after TC Yasa.
He says they do a comprehensive visit when they are out in the field where they have with them a doctor, health inspector, dietitian, nurse with all the equipment that is need to provide health and medical services to the villages.
Waqainabete says they have screened all the villagers in Cogea Village.
He says that what they found is that people have not been able to go to the hospital after cyclones even though they are not hurt.
Waqainabete also highlighted that they have covered 80% of the communities in Bua.
Waqainabete says they have a plan to revisit these places to ensure that their health is protected.
Waqainabete also highlighted that the team had rapidly assembled toilets for Cogea Village and Galoa Island.
Waqainabete and health officials are in Vanua Levu and are working with the National Disaster Management Office and the Commissioner Northern in carefully monitoring the health situation after TC Yasa.
They are also monitoring the quarantine corridor for HMAS Adelaide.
