People living in Mavua and Raiwaqa settlements in Sigatoka have been advised to refrain from crossing the Mavua and Raiwaqa bridges as they are closed due to flooding.

Nabitu advisory councillor, Abhay Sharma says due to heavy rain since 3pm yesterday, the river was flooded by last night, and this morning when he tried to go to Sigatoka Town, the bridges were flooded and a portion of the road in Raiwaqa settlement has been washed away.

Sharma says the Raiwaqa bridge has always been a concern for many years as it always gets flooded during the rainy season and the issue has not been fixed to date.
