The Vodafone Flying Fijians scored five tries to beat Japan 38‑25 in a rugby Test in Western France this morning.
Fiji finally got a win in this series after taking heavy losses against the Barbarians and then England.
According to Planet Rugby, Fiji were ruthless in their pursuit of a win after scoring five tries with inside centre Levani Botia scoring a brace.
Fiji scored the first try of the game after outside centre Albert Vulivuli dotted down in the 14th minute.
Japan’s fly‑half Yu Tamura's penalty in the 19th minute was sandwiched with another Fiji try scored by Metuisela Talebula.
Botia’s first try came just before the second half which made the score 19‑6 to the Fijians.
Botia’s second try just came after the half, which made the score quite lopsided to the Fijians.
Japan finally got a try of their own when full‑back Kotaro Matsushima scored a five‑pointer which was followed closely by another Japan try to make the score 35‑13 after the conversion was made.
Nemani Nadolo had the final say with a penalty in the dying minutes of the clash.
Speaking to Fijivillage from France, Fiji’s coach John McKee says he is very pleased with the result as they had prepared well and they started the game strongly where they dominated territory and possession.
McKee says Japan came back strongly in the second half and moved the ball around thinking the Fijians were tiring but they managed to hold on.
McKee also had heaps of praise for Levani Botia who played an instrumental role in Fiji’s win today.
McKee says it’s good to finish the autumn tests with a win after suffering defeats against the Barbarians and England.
