Police are advising small boat operators to be mindful of the weather before venturing out to sea.
This is following an incident where Navua Police were deployed to respond to a distress call received yesterday afternoon, as a fiberglass boat carrying two people capsized in waters near the Navua passage.
Officers from the Navua Police Station were deployed on the FB Navua to conduct the search and rescue efforts, where they were able to rescue the boat captain and a 17-year old boy.
The capsized boat was also recovered and handed back to the captain after they were medically treated at the Navua Hospital.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said it was fortunate that no lives were lost.
ACP Driu is urging small boat operators to carefully monitor weather reports and make appropriate decisions, prioritizing safety at all times.
