The Blackrock Peacekeeping and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Camp which is a world class facility was officially opened today in Nadi by the Australian Minister for International Development and Pacific, Senator Zed Seselja and Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
While officiating at the opening ceremony, Seselja says the facilities will help Fiji develop its peacekeeping capability for the future and will allow Fiji’s peacekeeping expertise to be shared with the region.
He says the facilities at Blackrock will make an immense contribution to regional humanitarian disaster responses and the facility is a symbol of our shared values.
Meanwhile the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainaimarama says the Blackrock Camp is a world-class hub for Fiji’s security partnerships.
Bainimarama says the camp is more than its state-of-the-art facility but is a testament to the very best of their national character.
He says this is a statement of what Fijians are prepared to give the world.
The Blackrock Peacekeeping and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Camp took 33 months to complete.
$100 million was the cost of local labour, materials and plant construction works.
It is fully funded by the Australian Government.
