The NZ Blackferns 7s came from behind to beat the USA 26-12 in the HSBC Cape Town 7s Women’s Cup Final to be crowned champions this morning.
The USA took an early 12-0 lead after scoring 2 tries through Nia Toliver and Alyssa Porter in the 1st and second minutes, with one conversion in the 3rd minute by Kayla Canett.
NZ came back strongly just before halftime to score back-to-back converted tries through Jorja Miller and Jazmin Felix-Hotham in the 6th and 7th minute respectively to lead 14-12 at the break.
NZ sealed the deal with two more tries through Kelsey Teneti and Dhys Faleafaga in the 11th and 13th minutes and a conversion for the win.
In the Women’s 3rd place playoff, France edged Australia 17-14.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side finished 10th after going down 14-12 to China in the 9th-place playoff.
The Men’s Cup Final between South Africa and France is about to kick off.
