The New Zealand Black Ferns 7s has been crowned the Women’s champions of the HSBC Hong Kong 7s after outclassing the USA Women 36-7 in the Cup Final tonight.
NZ dominated the first 5 minutes of the match scoring three tries through Jorja Miller and Michaela Blyde who scored two tries with Tyla King adding one conversion for a 17-0 lead.
The USA bounced back at the stroke of halftime to score a converted try through Alex Sedrick despite being one player short after Steph Rovetti was yellow-carded for tackling a player in the air.
NZ led 17-7 at the break.
Blyde scored her third try in the 9th minute with the conversion unsuccessful to extend their lead to 22-7.
Mahina Paul scored a further two converted tries for the Black Ferns to put the final nail in the coffin.
Blyde was named the Player of the Final.
The win has seen NZ moved to the top of the Women’s points table and is locked at 106 points with Australia who is in second place while France is third with 88 points.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s have moved up to 6th place, surpassing Ireland after their 5th place finish with 54 points.
