Opposition MP Biman Prasad has been voted out as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and has now resigned from the committee.
Government Whip Ashneel Sudhakar is the new Chairman while the Deputy Chair is Mohammed Dean.
Government member Mohammed Dean nominated Sudhakar as Chair and this was seconded by Alexander O’Connor.
Aseri Radrodro did not vote.
Speaking after his resignation, Dr Prasad says the Public Accounts Committee is now toothless.
Fijivillage also questioned Dr Prasad on why he resigned from the Committee as he will now be talking from the sidelines.
He says he does not believe in the Committee anymore.
New Public Accounts Committee Chairman Ashneel Sudhakar says the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee does not necessarily have to be an Opposition member.
With the Parliamentary Standing Orders changing earlier this year, any member of the committee can be voted in as Chair after the Chairman serves 12 months in the position.
The previous rule stated that only an Opposition member could chair the Public Accounts Committee.
