Good news for over 3000 Fijians living in the remote islands of Lau group as they are expected to access better medical services in the coming weeks.
This is possible through the 33 days tour by a Ministry of Health team to Lau.
The visit is part of an annual program where officials conducts school health visits, general outpatient, dental services, NCD screening, Rheumatic heart disease screening, cervical cancer screening, minor surgeries, health promotion and awareness.
The team will conduct community outreach and health services that are not available at the health stations on the islands.
Acting Divisional Medical Officer Eastern Dr. Josaia Tiko says that the medical team will also be conducting nutrition assessments, general physical examination, immunization to consented children, Rheumatic heart disease screening, eye screening, ear screening, dental examination and treatment.
The team began their visitation programme in Naroi, Moala on Monday this week and is scheduled to cover Moala, Matuku, Totoya, Ono‑i‑Lau, Vatoa, Ogea, Fulaga, Kabara, Namukailau, Komo, Moce, Oneata, Vanuavatu and Nayau in the coming days.
The trip will also ship medical supplies and furniture to the 4 Health Centers and 13 nursing stations in the Lau group.
Meanwhile, a similar outreach is also running in Kadavu and Vanuabalavu subdivision respectively, while Lomaiviti was completed about a week ago.
