More than 2000 people from six villages in Beqa Island will soon have access to medical services as a new nursing station is expected to be constructed in Raviravi village.
The six villages are Raviravi, Lalati, Nawaisomo, Rukua, Naiseuseu and Naceva.
Villager Serupepeli Ratuvukivuki said this will save costs for the people as they do not have to go to the only Health Centre in Dakuibeqa which is located on the other side of the island.
He said the cost of taking people by boat to the centre is $200 return and that is why they requested for government assistance.
He said for serious sicknesses, they go to the Navua Hospital which is $30 return.
The new nursing station and the quarters cost $400,000.
Meanwhile, government has spent $1 million for capital projects in the Beqa Island.
A media tour on the island was led by the Commission Central Lt. Col Laisenia Tuitubou.
