Being given the role to lead the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua side this year is a huge responsibility especially when you know you are also carrying the weight of the supporters on your shoulder.
This was the statement of Fijian Drua captain Ratu Meli Derenalagi during an interview with fijivillage News today.
Derenalagi says he has a job to do and the support from Tevita Ikanivere, Mesake Doge, Iosefo Masi and Frank Lomani, helps lighten the workload for him.
The 25-year-old was ruled out halfway through the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season last year due to injury and had to undergo surgery.
Derenalagi says he is grateful for the support shown by the management and the players for trusting him to lead the side this year.
The Narewa, Nadi man says the team have set their goal this season and that is to be in the top 4 and secure a home quarter final.
He says they are doing their best to hit their target this season.
Derenalagi and the Drua will play the Blues in their first match of the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season on the 24th of this month in Auckland.
