The Consumer Council of Fiji is calling on people to be aware of the “special” deals that is mostly too good to be true during this festive season.
Council’s Officer‑in‑Charge, Bindula Devi says in light of the complaints from previous years, the Council is calling on the consumers to be wary of traders who use misleading advertisements to entice consumers into buying items which are outdated and not of good quality.
Devi says the market surveillance over the past years show that some traders try to get rid of their old stock during this time.
She says some of these items may not be satisfactory with outdated features.
Devi says in regards to pre-packed food items, consumers should be mindful of the expiry dates, advertisements or promotion validity periods and damaged packaging.
She says mobile phones, handsets and other electrical goods are some of the items to watch out for as the Council continues to receive complaints about the quality and durability of these products.
Devi adds due to enticing advertisements, loud music played in stores and sales tricks, there are lots of impulsive buying during the festive season.
