While celebrating the National Day of France or 'Bastille Day' at the FMF Gym in Laucala Bay, French Ambassador to Fiji, François-Xavier Léger says they celebrate the French values of liberty, equality, and fraternity connecting it to sports' values of humility, respect and inclusion.
Léger says they are also celebrating the hosting of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in France where athletes from all over the world will be coming to Paris to highlight the importance of sport.
He says relations are good between France and Fiji as we share a lot of things in common like promoting international law and order, peaceful resolution of conflicts and the fight against the effects of climate change.
Fiji’s Acting Chief of Protocol, Paulo Daurewa proposed a toast to the French President Emanuel Macron on behalf of the President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere and Fiji for their welfare, peace and prosperity.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica, Independent MP Mosese Bulitavu, Fiji Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry and other members of the society.
The whole gym was decked out in the "tricolore" flags draped across and over the stands to set an epic backdrop for the celebrations.
There was a wide range of French food, hors d'oeuvres and cheese boards for people to enjoy with some sparkling French Champagne.
Vude Queen Laisa Vulakoro and her band set the tone for the night with some jazzy numbers which had people swaying through the night.
