The Basketball Fiji’s preparations for their 2023 Pacific Games campaign will be boosted with the presence of two high-profile Australian coaches who will be attending the national training sessions this week through the PacificAus Sports program.
Basketball Fiji will be hosting Scott Butler and former Australian Opals Coach, Lori Chizik who will be in Suva to support Basketball Fiji national coaches as they prepare for the Pacific Games.
This program directly addresses FIBA’s Strategic Priority of Empowering National Federations by professionalizing national team structures.
Chizik, who has mentored several coaches in Australia says he is happy to be involved with any team and their programs anytime.
He says he has had a wonderful career in basketball and imparting his knowledge and experiences of basketball to others is all part of his journey and the bigger picture.
He adds he is looking forward to working with Basketball Fiji helping their high-performance program prepare for the Pacific Games at the end of the year.
Basketball Fiji Chief Operating Officer and Men’s Head Coach, Lai Puamau says having Butler and Chizik mentor coaching staff and players will definitely lift the standard of the game locally.
Puamau says through the support of PacificAus Sports, they are fortunate to have top coaches and experts in the sport to provide technical training to both our national and local coaches.
He says this will facilitate the growth of the sport locally and help improve the team’s preparation for the Pacific Games and other regional competitions.
Basketball Fiji is proudly supported by the Australian Government through PacificAus Sports and Team Up in partnership with the FIBA Foundation.
The 2023 Pacific Games will be held in Honiara, Solomon Islands from the 19th of November to the 2nd of December 2023.
