Pacific Games Sprint King Banuve Tabakaucoro will not be running at the Coca Cola Games today.

Banuve was injured during training on Wednesday night at the National Stadium and suffered a hamstring injury.

Marist Brothers High School principal, John Atalifo also confirmed that he is currently recovering from the hamstring injury and Banuve addressed the Marist Athletics Squad yesterday that he will not be taking part in the Games today.

But Athletics Manager Navitalai Waiwalu said last night that they are still hoping the sprint king will run today.

Waiwalu added that Suva Grammar School is not their main threat.

The 100 metres heats will start at 5.25 pm today while the finals will commence at 7.49 tonight.

43 gold medals will be at stake today, 20 on the tracks and 23 in the field.

In the girls division 9 gold will be up for grabs on the tracks and 11 in the field events while in the boys division they will battle for 11 gold on the tracks and 12 in the field.

The 1,500 metres finals start at 9.45 this morning. More than 2,600 athletes are taking part in this year’s games.
