The banks of the Rewa river is eroding according to an assessment done by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Land Resources Planning Development Division Senior Officer Samuela Gaunavou said the area where soil erosion is quite evident is Syria Park.
Attempts he said were made earlier by the Nausori Town Council to try and level the land, yet the soil keeps getting washed away with the flow of the water.
The Agriculture Ministry he says was then called in to help control the soil erosion.
Gaunavou added that they are awaiting word from the Council for the Ministry to begin a trial of growing Vetiver grass which is ideal as a barrier for soil erosion.
Meanwhile the cause of the soil erosion of the river banks has occurred over the years and is due to the floods and also the strong currents from heavy rain.
