Ban still in place for the consumption or selling of fish ‘daniva’

A ban is still in place for the consumption or selling of the fish ‘daniva’ in the whole of the Lomaiviti group.

The Ministry of Fisheries is stressing that fish species usually feed on a special kind of toxic substance which blooms in this weather.

This toxic substance is usually carried by female fish.

The Ministry of Fisheries is also urging people to refrain from the consumption of the toxic species of fish such as Bati, Regurawa, Delabulewa, Barracuda and Ogo.

Four people lost their lives after eating daniva fish in the village of Somosomo, Gau.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Medical Service is continuing investigations regarding the fish poisoning.
