“The repair or the reinstatement of the Kasavu slip will not be a short term fix.”

Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Bala made this comment when he was asked by FijiFirst MP, Viam Pillay to provide an update on the Kasavu slip.

Bala says that the slip which occurred in mid-December last year caused extensive damage.

He says that the Fiji Roads Authority is investigating options on ways to repair the slip as more slips were discovered.

He says that long and short term options will be finalised once investigations are completed by the consultants.

Bala adds that there is an alternate bypass route which people can use however there is an 18 tonne restriction.

SODELPA MP, Aseri Radrodro then asked who will bear the cost of the traffic diversion.

Bala says that the Fiji Roads Authority will be paying for the costs.
