Parveen Bala at the Nausori Market speaking with vendors [Fiji govt]

Minister for Local Government Parveen Bala has directed the Nausori Town Council to increase and strengthen security at the Nausori Market.

This comes in light of the market being broken into recently.

Bala instructed the Council to increase the number of security guards from one to four and install security cameras within the premises.

Bala says the government supports the vendors through small grants to grow their businesses and providing facilities such as the Nausori Market to sell their produce, it becomes the responsibility for the Council to ensure maximum security is provided to them.

Police have confirmed 4 shops were broken into and cash and cigarettes were stolen last Thursday.

One of the vendors had told us that this is the third time the market was broken into this year despite the presence of a security guard at night.

Police say their investigation into the matter continues.
