Minister for Infrastructure, Parveen Bala has revealed in parliament that the issues raised by SODELPA MP, Aseri Radrodro on the $33M saga in the Water Authority of Fiji, has already been handed over to FICAC for investigations.
While speaking during the 2018/2019 National Budget Debate, Bala confirmed that the KPMG report on the Water Authority is with FICAC.
Radrodro had said that the Water Authority has recently come under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, and the abuse of public funds has been highlighted in the KPMG report.
It is alleged that Water Authority spent more than $33M to hire a digger for 15 months.
The alleged abuse of funds occurred in 2016.
The KPMG report recommended that the Authority needs to seriously consider the option of procuring vehicles and heavy machinery.
The report also highlighted that the board of the Authority had approved rates to be paid for hire of plant equipment however higher rates were paid to the contractors without any board approval.
FICAC has also confirmed to Fijivillage that they are currently conducting their investigation into the Water Authority based on the KPMG report.
