Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has called on all Fijians to join their Hindu brothers and sisters in recognising how far Fiji has come, and strengthen their bonds as one Fijian family.
He says we are a nation blessed with many cultures and religious traditions, and we are a people blessed with a spirit of openness that allows us to come together to share in each other’s celebrations.
Bainimarama stresses that our acceptance and our unity, as one nation and one people, are our greatest strengths, and those values will continue to carry Fiji to even greater heights in the years ahead.
He says last week, for the first time ever, we held our national Fiji Day celebrations in Nadi where thousands of Fijians from our Western Division came together to celebrate the 47th Anniversary of our Independence.
Bainimarama says just this week, Fiji’s light on the global stage shone brighter than ever, as we closed out our pre-COP event in Denarau, ahead of our COP23 Presidency.
He adds our pre-COP event was the largest the world had ever seen, as we welcomed 300 delegates from 68 countries and, together, we put the world in the best possible position to fully implement the Paris Agreement in Bonn, Germany this November.
He says in the midst of all of this, we are now marking one of the most joyous occasions on the Fijian calendar and a proud tradition in our national life, Diwali – the festival of lights.
