Bail granted for police officer who is charged for receiving a corrupt benefit

A 39-year-old police officer who is alleged to have obtained a benefit of an outboard motor engine for himself or another person has been granted bail.

Sevuloni Nakalevu appeared before Suva Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara today.

The alleged incident occurred between the 1st of January to the 31st of January in 2016 in Koro Island.

Nakalevu who is a police officer at the Levuka Police Station has been charged for receiving a corrupt benefit.

He has also been ordered to report to the nearest police station every Saturday.

The case will be called on the 28th of April for mention.
