The broken arm sustained by Tom Banks has opened up a Wallabies spot at fullback for the return of James O’Connor next Saturday.
Wallabies coach Dave Rennie says Banks would be out of rugby for more than six weeks after being forced off in last night’s 30-17 victory against World Cup champions South Africa.
He says they will be getting an assessment done to know whether the fractured hand will impact their end-of-season tour.
Banks has played in all eight Tests this season and was in good form against the Springboks with a neat inside pass in the lead-up to Len Ikitau's second try.
As a frontline player, Rennie may well consider taking Banks on tour even though he won’t be fit to face Japan on October 23 in Oita. A two-week break until the next Test against Scotland at Murrayfield on November 7 may give him the chance to prove his fitness.
Reece Hodge came in as a replacement for the 27-year-old and played more than 50 minutes against the Springboks at fullback.
The Wallabies will face Argentina at 10.05pm Saturday while the All Blacks meet the Springboks at 7.05pm Saturday.
