More employment is expected to be created for the people of Ba as works on the dredging of Ba River is expected to start next year.
Special Administrator Arun Prasad said the Amex Resources Limited of Australia who have received mining lease to extract iron ore from the river are expected to start works by mid next year which will definitely open up employment opportunities for some locals.
He said it will also earn royalties for the landowners and boost the economic growth of the town.
Prasad said the dredging process will also help solve their flooding problems.
The project represents a 21 year undertaking from the Australian company whereby iron ore will be removed from the Ba River and stockpiled in Lautoka and later sent to China.
In addition to this around $3 million worth of local investments are underway in Ba with the construction of a few factories and commercial building which will lead to more than 50 new jobs.
