The Ba Senior Citizens Center has received a grant of $30,000 which will help them to acquire a land of their own.

Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Dr Josefa Koroivueta signed over the grant to the Ba Senior Citizens Center which will assist the Center for this financial year.

Secretary Arun Sharma says the Center operates from Monday to Friday and they have programs such as Art and Craft, health and cooking.

He says the Center has been renting for 20 years and they intend to buy their own land.

Sharma says on Wednesdays they have about 60- 80 members present, and they try to provide lunch for them if they get sponsors.

He says the Center lacks space, furniture and appliances which they intend to buy.

Sharma says they have 120 registered members and they celebrate all religious and other festivals.

He says its more like a community center where it is similar to daycare for senior citizens. He says they intend to provide services where they can accommodate homeless people when they buy their own land.
