The 250 students of Nailuva District School can now for the first time study at night, made possible by a solar panel system that was donated to the boarding school by BSP.
The boarding school which is situated in the interios of Ra had previously relied on diesel generator powered electricity, which only allowed 4 to 6 hours of light daily.
BSP Head of Marketing Nirdesh Singh says BSP funds community projects for up to $10,000 and this year the theme they worked on was Solar Power for Schools.
Singh says Nailuva District School was identified for its lack of proper electricity.
Students will now have electricity when required in their classrooms, dining hall and the boarding rooms.
He says the total cost of the project was about $7,500 and the installed system was handed over to the school last week.
