The Republic of Fiji Military Forces and members of the Australian Defense Force took part in an amphibious exercise at Mosquito Island today.
The exercise demonstrated how they will approach a beach, what sort of reconnaissance is done, how security measures are done and then bring the soldiers ashore so they can deliver aid in a disaster relief operation.
RFMF Chief of Staff, Jone Kalouniwai says this is the kind of exercise that they are trying to capitalize on.
Kalouniwai says these kind of exercises is something that the RFMF requires in terms of modernizing its capabilities.
He says this will allow them to work together with the Fiji Navy.
HMAS Adelaide, Commander Joint Task Group, Jim Hutton says the key advantage for the RFMF would be they will be able to operate with Australian capability.
He says in times of natural disaster or the need deliver aid, ships like HMAS Adelaide can come to Fiji and help move the Fiji forces safely to allow them do deliver aid.
