It was a double celebration today when the Australian Defence Force completed their TC Yasa relief efforts and the commemoration of the 1 year anniversary of Fiji sending RFMF personnel to fire-ravaged areas in Australia.

Speaking at the hand over ceremony onboard the HMAS Adelaide, Captain Stuart Watters says the efforts of the RFMF and ADF have further strengthened the Vuvale partnership.

ADF has completed repair works and rebuilding in 32 schools.

They also delivered 165 tonnes of relief supplies, produced and distributed 1 million litres of drinking water, and repaired 6 electrical systems in Vanua Levu.

Watters says with the bond between Fijians and Australians, another page has been turned in history and they look forward to this bond growing stronger.

Minister for National Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu says given Fiji’s geographical layout it is not an easy task to try and rehabilitate affected areas and that is why they are forever grateful to Australia for the assistance.

He says TC Yasa has brought Australia and Fiji closer.

The HMAS Adelaide departs tomorrow.
