New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji Jonathan Curr and Australian High Commissioner to Fiji John Feakes say they realise how important the Bula Bubble is to Fiji.
However Curr says cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand present some challenges on how they will operationalise a Bula Bubble.
Curr adds the important thing is that we collaborate and work closely together to try and find solutions in these very difficult times.
Meanwhile John Feakes says at the moment there are very serious outbreaks of coronavirus in Australia so they are not really in a position to talk in detail because their medical people are focused on getting that under control.
He says at the moment they have had very preliminary discussions.
He says once the outbreak is under control in Australia and travel to New Zealand is opened up, then Fiji will be front and centre.
Feakes, however, confirms discussions will continue.
Meanwhile the Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum had earlier highlighted that talks continue with Australia and New Zealand about the travel bubble however the talks are at a delicate stage.
Sayed-Khaiyum says those discussions will continue and the government will also remain focused on assisting the tourism industry in getting ready for the borders to be opened.
He says the travel packages are being put together to attract the tourists when the borders open.
Government has allocated $60 million for the Fiji Recovery Rebate Package in the 2020/2021 National Budget where through Fiji Airways, the government will give the first 150,000 visitors $400 each to go towards packages including flights, accommodation and Food and Beverages.
