Australia, India and Indonesia will again co-chair the independent Multinational Observer Group for the 2022 general elections.

The terms of reference was signed with the three countries and the Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Elections, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum yesterday.

They were also co-chairs in the 2014 and 2018 general elections.

Australian Chargé d'Affaires, John Williams says they are pleased to be working again with their friends from India and Indonesia to jointly co-lead the Multinational Observer Group for the elections.

He says from the Australian perspective, they are delighted to continue to build on the very strong partnership with the Fijian Government, and an important part of that is continue to support Fiji’s democratic process and systems including it’s electoral systems.

Williams says they are looking forward to setting up the secretariat for the elections.

Indonesia and India say they are looking forward to working together with Australia after an invitation by the Fijian Government.

Sayed-Khaiyum says there is no limitation on the number of observers and they have invited different countries that want to participate. The terms of reference will be available on the Fijian Elections Office website and it is the same as the last elections.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says the Multinational Observer Group will begin it’s work once the secretariat is ready.

Saneem says the Fijian Government will then invite other governments to send observers to participate in the Multinational Observer Group.
