Audiences were wowed with the vibrant colours of bula shirts, summer dresses, swim wear and sarongs that were showcased by 15 different designers on the first night of Fiji Fashion Week.
The founder of Fiji Fashion Week, Ellen Whippy‑Knight says that all the designers last night which included the emerging designers, got out of their comfort zone and impressed audiences and the fashion industry.
Emerging designer, Kess Baleirara was in tears as she watched models grace the runway of Fiji Fashion Week with her handmade summer dresses.
Baleirara says that she always had a passion to sew and draw and recently decided to combine the two and begin designing however she never expected to see other people where her creations.
Re‑known local designer, Michael Mausio says it was very chaotic and stressful to put designs together as they were pushed for time, however the designers enjoyed the challenge.
Designers who will be showcasing their work tonight include, Jokilda by Jyoti Singh, Kuiviti by Epeli Tuibeqa, Tawhiao by Shona Tawhiao (tafiao) from New Zealand, Bou Line by Bou Fonua from Tonga, 8 Mountains by Moira Solvalu, Hupfeld Hoerder and Elaradi by Laisiasa Davetawalu.
Fiji Fashion Week Resort Luxe Show will begin at 7.30pm tonight at the FMF Gymnasium.
