Yaqona farmers on the island of Gau managed to earn about $15 million following the success of Rural Millionaire Farming programme.
This has been highlighted by the Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs Selai Adimaitoga while addressing the Ra Provincial Council meeting today.
She says that through the programme 125 new houses have been built on Gau across 12 villages, 46 farmers opened up savings account for their children’s education while 19 farmers bought new vehicles to assist them in their farming.
19 farmers also managed to buy fibre glass boats while three farmers are now operating their own shops on the island.
The Rural Millionaire Farming programme was established in Sawaieke and Nawaikama Village in 2015 on Gau for farmers to plant yaqona whereby buyers directly have to go to the island and purchase from the farmers.
