As India takes great pride in its achievements, it also celebrates equally the incredible development journey and inspiring successes of Fiji and other Pacific friends against all challenges.
While celebrating the 75th Republic Day of India with the Indian diaspora and friends in Fiji at the Indian High Commission in Suva, the High Commissioner of India P.S Karthigeyan says 2023 was a momentous year for the relationship between India and Fiji.
He says their close and multifaceted bilateral relations with Fiji have received a strong momentum with more than 10 ministerial visits in a year.
While highlighting the achievements and challenges of India, he says in the development partnership, some high-impact community-oriented projects were launched as per the priorities of the Fijian Government.
Karthigeyan says these includes the gifting of two mobile Soil Testing Laboratories to the Ministry of Agriculture and the supply of life-saving Anti-Retroviral drugs for HIV patients.
The High Commissioner further says to support efforts aimed at building climate resilience, the expanded Parametric Micro insurance project was launched to provide critical insurance cover to more than 5,000 most vulnerable households across Fiji and to promote the usage of clean renewable energy.
He also says there were photo voltaic systems installed at the State House in Suva, the Great Council of Chiefs Hall and Residence of the High Chief in the Chiefly Island of Bau under the Solarization of Head of State Residence Project with funding from the India-UN Fund during the year. The celebration including the address by the High Commissioner of India with the flag-raising ceremony followed by the message of India's President.
