The Director of the National Training and Productivity Centre, Dr Isimeli Tagicakiverata says they have approximately 240 apprentices in training with more than 60 employers who have been continuously supporting this scheme.
He says this is a testament that the scheme is able to provide industries with graduates with high productivity.
This year marks the 59th year of the apprenticeship scheme.
Tagicakiverata says close to 9,000 people have been trained through the apprenticeship scheme in Fiji and many have become leaders in various industries and the government.
He says 80 apprentices are expected to graduate at the end of this year.
Tagicakiverata says recently large corporations such as the Energy Fiji Limited and Fiji Sugar Corporation Limited have returned to the apprenticeship scheme.
He also confirms they have recorded an increase in the number of females joining the scheme.
Tagicakiverata revealed this while speaking during the Virtual Apprenticeship Session organised by FNU’s National Training and Productivity Centre.
