Around 2,000 people are expected to gather at the FMF Gymnasium tomorrow in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Soqosoqo Vakamarama iTaukei.
President Adi Finau Tabukaucoro says they have invited Ministers and other civil society organisations to be part of the celebration.
She says the celebration is to remember those women who have given their time and support in the development of iTaukei women.
Adi Finau says they are an organisation that accepts people from all backgrounds.
She adds as they look to the future, they realise that their organisation must become self-sustaining so that they can be involved in creating wealth for their 200,000 members.
The Organisation President says the appropriate changes have been made to their constitution and these have been endorsed by their National Council.
Adi Finau says these changes will now make it possible to reform the way they do some things, and it will allow Soqosoqo Vakamarama iTaukei to provide opportunities for their members to actively participate in developing wealth creation for their financial security, now and into the future.
She says this whole process has been facilitated by the British High Commission, for which they are grateful.
Soqosoqo Vakamarama iTaukei is the oldest and largest Indigenous Women’s Organisation in Fiji.
The Organisation is non-political and non-sectarian, and it has the mandate to speak for indigenous people on indigenous issues, with representation at every Provincial Council, Provincial Development Board, and Provincial Committee.
Their members reside in the 14 Provinces, 860 Tikinas and 1,192 villages across the country.
The program for tomorrow starts with a march from Bar Belle Restaurant along the Queen Elizabeth Drive to the FMF Gymnasium at 8.30am, followed by a sevusevu that will be presented to the Tui Suva at 9am and a church service at 9.30am.
The celebration will start at 11am.
