The people of Kalabu are standing their ground and taking matters into their own hands to safeguard their community from the harmful effects of drugs, as they have set down a law that anyone found dealing with drugs will be given a 7-day eviction notice.

Manikoso Settlement Health Community worker Margret Bennion says drugs are everywhere in their community, and now children are finding needles.

She says they have discussed the impact of drugs with the Turaga ni Koro of Kalabu, and he has agreed that anyone caught with drugs will be evicted from their land.

Bennion adds she is grateful they are taking this initiative to safeguard their community.

She also highlighted the need for more awareness programs in their area so the youths are well-versed with the damaging effects of taking drugs.
