Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, Pio Tikoduadua

As the subject of amendments to the Constitution have been in the public discourse lately, Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, Pio Tikoduadua has stressed that any changes to the Constitution must be lawful.

In his New Year’s address, Tikoduadua says the Constitution is the supreme law of Fiji and the government, the courts of justice and our rights are provided for in the constitution.

He says any changes to the Constitution must be lawful and requires careful consideration, thorough debate in parliament, and most importantly, the consensus of the Fijian people through a referendum.

Tioduadua says this process ensures that constitutional amendments are not only lawful but also reflect the collective will and best interests of the nation.
